Websites Are Sexy

back to 'links'

When I was a teen, I'd remember coming into school and my friend saying "hey i found this cool website" and then we'd try to access it on the PCs at school (most would inevitbly be blocked).

I remember when you could just type in a random selection of words and get random websites. Like, it wouldn't be all targetted and algorithms. No ads or sponsored listings - it would just be "hey this website kinda mentions what you said??". You could just hang out on someone else's space, I think it's good for us? Like exploring the wilderness - except it's a website. Back when googlewhacking could legitimately be done.

That's enough reminiscing ~~

Desbite social media and big companies ruining our internet, it's exciting to see spaces like nekoweb and neocities (and to a slightly different degree w3Spaces) around. Places that enable you to just make and publish your own website.

Before I ramble any more, here is a list of websites I like;

🚀

    Cool Websites!
  • Knox's Korner on WayBack Machine - I can't vouch for the content here as this is a website I spent a lot of time on as a teen. Some of it may not have aged very well. On account of it being on WayBack Machine as you can imagine a lot of stuff on the site doesn't work, but some of the videos are available!
    Games And Timewasters
  • 2048.io - a simple in browser game with no ads. It does sort of run on mobile but not meant for it.
  • Orisinal Games by Ferry Halim - flash games I was pretty obsessed with as a teen/kid. Used to play some of them on the interactive whiteboards at school.
  • HK Café - stupid flash game from a long time ago. I will probably embed this in the website sometime.
  • Online Sequencer - online music sequencer, it has 8bit/chiptune sounds on it so it's fun to mess around on.
    Lifestyle
  • Goblin Tools - a selection of tools that help my little autism brain move through the world (I particularly find the 'judge' tool helpful as I'm regularly getting in trouble online and in the real world for sounding aggressive when writing notes) (also recommend the 'formalizer' to change the tone of your work, I regularly have to set it to "unwaffle" as I often use 10000000 words when like ten would suffice).
  • Just Bento by Makiko Itoh - when I had a special interest in Japanese food I found Makiko Itoh's cook books and website so helpful. I've got the Just Bento and Just Bento 2 cookbooks (I still enjoy it big time now I'm just not constantly looking at this website lol).
  • Japanese Cooking 101 - this is the other japanese food website I spent a lot of time on.
    Webmaking and Art Resources
  • w3.CSS - w3schools have their own CSS styles that make it so easy. I use this in combination with my own CSS to make this website and honestly it's been a time-saver.
  • Webmastery 101 by DOOMVEGA - geez i wonder how to make a website? Doom Vega is a cool person, though I have to admit I haven't actually used this site for my web building but I trust it fr fr.
  • LoFi Lamb - something to put on in the background when you're working.
  • Anthro Animals - 'how to draw furries' link I had saved from 2020 xD.
  • Photopea - in-browser version of PhotoShop (free)
    FFXIV Resources
  • Weather Tracker - easy to use tracker for finding certain weather conditions (fishing!).
  • Market Board Listings - app for finding current rates of items on the marketboard.
  • Encyclopedia - website listing all items, people, shops etc. Easy to use search function.
    Other Game Resources
  • Pokémon Sleep on Serebii.net - we all know serebii, but I use it for finding stuff out about Pokémon Sleep for my spreadsheet.
